WIP Demo Phase V-VI: Welcome to the Discord!

Hello everyone and welcome to our end of week devlog for Dead Heat!

This week will be a short one, as I have been busy with freshers week in University and debugging the current build of the demo. However, this week saw the opening up of the Dead Heat discord! Albeit with some initial errors.

It wouldn't be right if we didn't start something off with complications, though! The link for the discord was not set to never expire and so expired after only one day.

A new permanent link is currently on our Itch.io page, our twitter feed, and we will be including it down below just in case you tried the temp link:

This week we were fixing some prominent bugs with the direct movement that were preventing players from talking to NPCs. The bug came about due to some mixed commands within the settings script. Once that was fixed, we could move on to tweaking the direct menu. The direct menu will replace the original design of the UI with the mouse changing to fit the interaction. Now, the icons will be in the top right of the UI.
The reason for this is to make UI usability the same across the board for both Point&Click users and Controller&Keyboard users. We want there to be no control method that has an objective advantage over the other, without affecting the gameplay of course. As said in a previous devlog: the changing of the mouse icons was always intended to be temporary.

The black borders of the UI can be turned off in the options menu in the next update if you find them disruptive. More options is never a bad thing!

The player's heart rate monitor is being added to the UI borders. Whether they are always there or will disappear after a while is currently being considered. We will have them fully implemented in next weeks update.

Next week, we also hope to have all of the sound effects added into the demo, and progress on Glen Bishops model.

Thank you for reading our end of week devlog. We hope to see you at the discord!
