Sonja Vargas
Hello everyone, and welcome to our end of week update for Dead Heat.
This week, we were able to get back all of our lost progress from the ransomware attack. We can now continue adding in new features to the demo.
On Monday, we sent out an advertisement to various discords and subreddits for a low poly 3D modeller. We were contacted by an artist; Dan, who could give Sonja the remodelling she needed. The model we had at the time was technically broken and unfinished.
Dan began work on a new model design immediately. We hosted a call to bring Dan up to speed on the game and its style. The look that we are going for. There were several things about the previous concept art for Sonja that did not translate well into low poly models, such as the pattern on Sonja's coat, which showed up as a blurry mess instead of intricate pattern. Dan suggested that we instead restrict the pattern to just the arms and back to add some detail to the model, but not so much that it overwhelms her.
Before long, we had a prototype model ready:
To say it was a drastic change would be an understatement. It was more than we could ever have hoped for. Sonja looks more fleshed out. This model is still in development but the new look is there.
Just for comparison.
The patterns on Sonja's coat will be slowly added to over the coming week, but it will not be as much as before. We will try and keep it as Conservative as possible. Small touches from Dan such as the back rose design is a great addition to Sonja.
Along with detail to the coat, we'll finalize her face, head and body in the coming days and move to Lilith.
I hope you'll stick around to see our zombie come to life!
Thanks for reading and we'll see you next time!
