New Look for Lilith

Hello everyone and welcome to our end of week devlog for Dead Heat!

This week, we focused on Lilith. Her original design is one that most who follow our project are familiar with, but the truth is that her design has always been a placeholder. Her original outfit was based on her original concept art.

The outfit was inspired by Jill valentine's in RE1, as kind of an ironic homage. In fact, our next artist; Katherine Osika, gave Lilith's outfit a similar colour pattern based on the NYPD officer's uniform colours.

The purpose of these earlier concepts was to get a good idea of what Zombies will generally look like, and what kind of zombie Lilith will be. Would she have any cybernetics? Would she be missing anything? or would she be fully intact? Given her nature as a hunter Zombie, she would be more intact than most zombies. After a few designs, we came to one that we were happy with.

The facial appearance was right, but the outfit was designed to be something of a general idea that we would iterate on at a later date. That date didn't come for a long time due to other matters taking precedence. With the new demo and a new style for Dead Heat, we have the opportunity to return to Lilith and inject more of her personality into her outfit. Our new artist; Dan, was given more freedom to work with on Lilith than Sonja. Sonja's outfit was already moulded by her personality and environment, while Lilith's had remained default. Though a description of her character and personality, we came to this new design.

Her jacket was heavily modified to better represent her Thunderhead lifestyle. The rolled up sleeves and shoulder pads call to the worlds apocalyptic past. The most interesting aspect of the new design is her shirt, a tattered old metal shirt with the icon of her favorite band. An icon that is still used by the Thunderheads; despite many of them having no context to what it actually is.
In a second meeting, we iterated on the design a little more to add some final touches to the larger elements of the outfit.

The most noticeable difference being the lack of shoulder pads, a more traditional bikers jacket would suit Lilith more since she wasn't necessarily a part of the apocalyptic world, she was killed at the very outset, so giving her a survivalists regalia seemed to not make much sense. The sleeves were rolled down simply to give the outfit a cleaner look. We will be adding in smaller details to the design as we continue.
A 3D model will hopefully be in development next week. It will be very interesting to see the two models animated and intractable.

Thank you for reading our end of week devlog!

See you, folks, next time!
