WIP Demo Phase I

Hello everyone and welcome to a very special devlog for Dead Heat.

For the past year, we have made great progress moving away from our old 2D demo made in Game Maker, to a new demo that better represents what we want Dead Heat to be. A loveletter to Horror, Film Noir, and late 90s PS1/Adventure Games. The progress we have made has been both great, but also slow.

It is now August, and though we have made great progress in experimenting with new mechanics we plan on adding into the game. Only a handful of these mechanics are actually ready.  We hope to gain funding for the project within the year, but it is becoming increasingly unlikely at the rate we are going.

The reasons for this demo are two fold:

First, we want something for you to physically play. Something to give you an idea of what Dead Heat will play like, look like, sound like and feel like. The WIP demo will be updated each time we need to fix a buggy feature, finish a mechanic, or we want to test out a mechanic we aren't sure of yet. Which brings us to our second point.

We are still at an early stage in the development were we can test out the mechanics and see if they work or not. But we can't do that without your help. You are the best judge as to what mechanics you feel work and what don't. You can provide us with essential user feedback that will help us avoid building flawed mechanics into the game.

The demo as it is now is very basic. There are some pieces of evidence we are yet to finish up. There are some mechanics that we want some more time to cook before we add them to the demo.

We'll be updating the demo every week until we complete all three phases. From now on, every Sunday will not only come with a devlog, but also come with an update to the demo.

We hope that you will give the demo a try and help us out by leaving your thoughts. If you encounter any bugs (likely) during gameplay, please let us know about them so we can fix them in later updates.

Thanks for reading this special version of Dead Heat's devlog. I hope you like what you see and would consider supporting us in the future.
